Pros

Hotel hosts very large conventions. Union property means longevity and some job security. Renovations are underway. Frequently has lots of opeings for many hotel positions.

Cons

When a large convention is gone, you know it. There is so much convention space that is very noticeable when the event has departed. Convention business hold priority over room sales at this property. How this trickles down is restaurant business is open for conventions. Hours of operation happen during conventions. If somebody comes from Minneapolis for dinner and a convention is not in house, the restaurant is closed and guests are sent to the hotel bar for dinner. There are huge inconsistancies. Many of the employees have union benefits, which provide little to no vacation time. There are huge staffing cuts here. One employee does the position of three, often times. Many of the employees do not have long term disability benefits. Corporate involvement from Richfield Hospitality is lacking. Hotel has flipped owners, morale suffered. Individual contribution is a result. Team efforts are sparse. Company and departmental meetings are few and far between. Banquets is the department with the greatest longevity records. Guests are turned away, frequently denied service, but usually accomodated if they belong to Hilton Honors program. Hilton gets the black eye for the Richfield Hospitality corporate "hands off" approach to managing this property.
