Pros

Talking to guests and helping them with whatever they need. Also getting to know my co workers. They're pretty amazing people to work with.

Cons

Worked to death. Have to fold our own linens. We basically have to do everyone's job in our department because no one cares enough for there job to help anyone out. We have people in the laundry that come to work anytime that they want and take lunch for about an hour. Then they go back to work and do absolutely nothing but walk in and out of the bathroom and kitchen. Not caring if we have the right materials upstairs so it's easier for us. Management doesn't do much but sit in the office with the door closed.

Pros

It was a demanding place to work in terms of hours - I would often work 50-60 hours a week but it was a good atmosphere and a "all in it together" culture - nobody left early. Our manager was great - although giving the impression of being a bit all over the place he was the go-to person in the building. It's over 2 years since I left the hotel and although many of the faces have changed the ones that remain still stop to say hello and ask how I'm getting on if I visit. They were very interested in development and training - I learnt a lot and the experience was invaluable to me. I still miss the team and keep in touch with many of them. The "CARE" philosophy was strong in the location I worked in and our team even won £500 in a hotel-wide competition to demonstrate a value.

Cons

On a personal note I worked 1 hour away so the travelling was tough, especially in winter. It was difficult to secure promotion which is why I moved on in the end. Our entire department were deemed as "casual" staff which meant that we weren't entitled to any of the lucrative Hilton benefits and although working for over a year (and being replaced by one) was never able to secure a permanent contract, even with part time hours (although I was generally working minimum 40).

Pros

The hotel has a high potential with better management.

Cons

One can not survive on that salary alone. General manager was problematic and the work environment is not so friendly
