      A leap of faith career change which has gone the distance

      Pros

      When I started here 5 years ago, I was having a drastic career change. I honestly wasn't sure if I would even enjoy it and wondered if I would last the year! I have now not looked back. I loved my previous career working with special needs children and started working for Dexters, due to a friend making me aware of the earning potential. He was in my year at school and whilst I was working 3 jobs and still earning next to nothing he was on an amazing salary and had just bought a flash new car! Whilst money is not everything, this job allowed me to earn enough to move out (something which would have been nearly impossible before). I also find the office environment so much fun and am lucky enough to work in a great office with a fantastic team. I have lots of friends who work in estate agency and I am genuinely confident that I am working for the best agency there is! I'm not a naturally 'salesy' person so I would not be happy to work in the way that other agents do with hard sales tactics and twisting the truth. I think we really are reshaping the way agency is viewed by the public and I enjoy providing the best service for my clients and customers.

      Cons

      Career progression is a massive part of the Dexters way. I believe it is a good part of the company but a downside is progression and promotion is not on an exact science in this company and promotions tend to be a bit ad hoc, some people are pushed forwards and some are held back. Overall though the company do promote careers for life so you can succeed and progress ... it is just worth bearing in mind that you need to be a bit blinkered to what is happening with others around you and focus on your own goals.

      Pros

      You run your own branch/area with little input from the managing directors unless you would like it Growing business so great career opportunities for all levels for promotion and payrises Great Earnings Working within reasonable distance to home Fun working environment

      Cons

      Hours can seem longer to people with young families but the company have introduced flexible evenings to accommodate this.
