Just Don’t

Pros

Great diverse group of individuals in the trenches with you who actually care. you make friends here you keep forever.

Cons

How valuable are your mental health and self worth, exactly? What price tag could you possibly put on those things? You’d say there isn’t one, but working here you’ll find there is, and the price is low. You will be underpaid, undervalued, but always kept at arms length for that “next big thing” you’re so close to. It’s a hamster wheel you won’t be able to find a way out of because they will always push “you don’t know what other companies are like, grass isn’t always greener…” 15 years at Dell and never one customer escalation, one missed quota, one interaction that couldn’t be remedied with a quick chat and constantly at the top of every staff ranking still got me affected by the WFR. You will be tasked with “extra credit” assignments to prove your worth, to act as a coach (official role within Dell you’ll do for free) and train peers to show initiative then be given 20 reasons about your personality being the reason you don’t qualify “this time.” You will inevitably wonder “what is so wrong with me?”

I've lost all hope with Dell.

Pros

The community of people is great. I've really enjoyed getting to know my close team members and team of stakeholders, also really enjoy all of my partner accounts.

Cons

Massive pressure.. long working hours. Flexibility is communicated but leadership aren't actually flexible. High stress, pretty large learning curve. I was with Dell for 6 years.. survived 10+ rounds of layoffs but more and more keep coming. Morale is at an all time LOW because of this, I've never my peers so unmotivated, on edge, & unhappy. Think most stay because the job market is so terrible right now. Raises are non-existent, even after multiple promotions, my pay has only gone up about 5% over 6 years. Always hit all my numbers, always got great feedback in yearly reviews yet it always felt like that was all words with no real reward. There is no real vision for the future, Dell is taking a big gamble on AI but they're behind and I just don't see the overall strategy but maybe I'm just bitter after being cut.

Declining company that is miserable for employees

Pros

Competitive benefits, variety of departments and rotation opportunities

Cons

There is a horrific place for employees. The culture has evolved into a grim effort to grind through the latest re-organization or the latest customer-unfriendly policy change while looking forward to the next in a never-ending conveyor belt of layoffs ("WFRs"). Dell took a serious physical and mental toll on me while stunting my career growth. It's infinitely better outside of Dell in a company that has a humane and healthy culture.
