Pros

You do get paid. Work from home.

Cons

Seniority and experience means nothing here anymore as it is now owned and operated by India. Your past achievements at the company mean nothing to anyone and you WILL be treated like a child. If you like working 60-90 hours a week then this is the place for you. The 10, 13, 18 years of service and the millions you’ve personally saved with your direct efforts alone means nothing to anyone and you should not expect recognition or monetary compensation as a result. Your manager is 99% likely to be in India now and there will be little to no communication with that person. Your Indian “co-workers” (oxymoron) will: a. Take credit for your work. b. Bad mouth and make false claims against you to management throughout the year to ensure their promotion/raise over you. c. Use titles they haven’t earned like “senior” and “team lead”. d. Be ignorant of basic software concepts and incapable of delegating work appropriately. e. Eventually take your job through offshoring. If you enjoy back handed comments, people stabbing you in the face and in the back at the same time, then this is the place for you. If you enjoy devoting yourself for 13+ years to a company only to have them slap you in the face with false claims so that they can legally fire you and move your job to India then this is the place for you. To top off the experience you’re guaranteed to be fired or downsized by an Indian you’ve never met working in the US under HR.

Pros

75% of Dell are amazing people… smart, collaborative, compassionate. Truly met some of the coolest people I’ve ever worked with at Dell. Pay is objectively good (though just mediocre if looking purely at tech). Bonuses are very reliable… worst company level multiplier I saw in 4 years was a 0.91 multiplier despite a brutal performance year for the company.

Cons

25% is bad, and sadly a lot of leadership is in that bucket. Lots of childish politics and bureaucracy. Absolutely insane how top-heavy this org is - maybe 10 total people actually make decisions in an org of over 100k. Despite doing interesting work, most things feel like they die in a dark closet no matter how compelling the business case is… a big part of that comes from the very top. Having a 40 year old tech company is an incredible achievement, but “tried and true” smothers innovation in the age of AI. Finally… have to say it, but the RTO thing is worse than the headlines. Dell has invested literally nothing in offices yet expect everyone to be there. None of the pre-pandemic amenities like decent food, fitness facilities, etc were brought back to make the offices inviting places. It’s one thing to ask people to come back to the office - it’s another to ask them to spend 2,000 hours a year in a disgusting and depressing dungeon. IMO it shows just how little Michael and Jeff care about their employees.

Pros

-"They're a big international company". -They pay for healthcare (like any other company) -They offer life insurance (like any other company) -They offer pension plans (like any other company) -Most of the co-workers are really nice and good to work with. They make the place bearable.

Cons

-It's been going downhill rapidly for years now. -Poor communication from top down. -Constant changing and contradictory communication. Which have big impacts on people's personal lives. -Undervalued and overworked but they offer a 'competitive salary'. -Gaslighting you into believe you're not productive by constantly switching goalposts or bringing up new statistics/KPI. -Toxic work culture. Constant bombardment of 'Dell culture code' propaganda despite upper management not following it themselves. -Lack of care of employees well being. -Lack in flexibility of work/life balance. They would rather have you sit in tracking/public transport for 3+ hours a day than let you work from home. Which has already proven to be immensely beneficial productivity and the environment. -Everything you are entitled to by law is packaged as Dell being kind and generous, IE. remote work, work life balance, them unable to deny you time off for medical appointments and such. -Poorly thought through changes or removal in procedures/tools being pushed through and everyone else just has to deal with it. -You will be baited with career opportunities, just take the extra work, we promise you, you will get the promotion eventually. -HR will take forever to deal with harassment issues even though, there's multiple people reporting it.
