Toxic management, ridiculous company policies, and a literal sweatshop
Pros
Most coworkers were pleasant, and my direct alterations manager was decent. Good experience with fast-paced sewing.
Cons
We were required to audit ourselves and keep charts on productivity, and sew at over 100% productivity every day. This means we made $11.25 an hour for over $60 an hour worth of work, which was an insult. The only bathroom in the store was always out of order. The heating broke often, once for 4 months straight in the middle of the summer where temps got over 100 degrees in the back. They did not care since it worked on the showroom floor. We had at least 3 brides pass out from standing for over an hour in the heat during fittings in the back. There were so many company policies that made it very hard to do our job well. I ended up leaving, even though I really needed the job, because my coworker shoved me. The store manager found out, and proceeded to scream things at me that I will not repeat until I left. Called me a liar and was screaming so much she started sobbing. I am not exaggerating. I tried to call HR after I left, but could not reach them after dozens of attempts. To this day, I am upset I was not able to file an incident report with them.
