Pros

Unless you are a getting married and getting a discount, there really is no pros.

Cons

At Davids I started out as junior stylist, a non-commissioned position. Starting out you made $9.55 an hour, so it wasn't terrible. This position was supposed to be one where you help the stylists, yet it turned into the stores slave doing tasks so the managers and other employees can sit around doing nothing. The position was seasonal, however right before they were supposed to cut people I asked my boss if she was keeping me and she said yes. A couple months went by and my manager came up to me and said they're getting rid of my position and that I was now going to be a stylist. Sounds good right? No! A stylist was commissioned and we just got into the slow season, not to mention they picked favorites(their old employees) to get the higher end brides leaving the newbies with the brides who weren't looking to buy. You had to make $200 an hour to make commission starting off, or else you just made minimum wage. Also they make you do harass customers by calling them nonstop to try and get them to come in, which just made them angry and go somewhere else. The store also did on-call shifts where you had to call an hour before to see if they need you(in case someone calls out) which completely got in the way of any plans you had for the day. AND they would change the on-calls without letting you know. My family all lives out of town and I requested off yet still was on call! They could care less for their employees and customers and only care about making money. There was 10 of us hired on, and only 3 stayed. Not to mention numerous other employees left. Do yourself a favor, don't work here.

Pros

The working with excited brides and fun staff can be so rewarding, the experience makes you feel like family. Holidays off in reg. peak season, however forget a lunch break when it is peak season.

Cons

Unrealistic expectations, payroll cuts, poor life balance, lies, lies lies---- integrity is not even visible in the organization. I had 4 dms in 2 years there, no support whatsoever, and frankly couldn't wait to leave the company that promised so much in the beginning. It is a very different business, and takes quite a while to learn all of the processes, can be frustrating, and since it is a commissioned environment no one wants to help you.

Complete Nightmare

Pros

Some of my co-workers were very nice and we got along well for the most part. Mostly we bonded over the fact that we were all miserable at this place.

Cons

Where to begin? The training process was a joke...I was handed an outdated training manual without any actually applicable information and then I tossed right into the chaos. I was a Bridal Consultant and was assigned to brides long before I had any grasp on the job, and basically had to spew BS at these poor people to seem like I knew what I was doing. I wasn't trained on how the seasonal sales or the computer system worked and therefore often wasn't able to tell a girl how much her dress would actually cost her or if we could get it in by her wedding day. On top of all that, I was lied to about the commission system. I was told I would make a certain percentage off every dress I sold, which sounded great! It wasn't until I was two weeks in that a co-worker explained to me that I wouldn't start making commission until AFTER I sold a certain amount of dresses - and this threshold resets every "period." I short, I sold thousands of dollars worth of garbage and never once made commission. This is my nightmare experience to which I compare every other job I've had - nothing comes close to being as bad as this.
