Pros

It's a fun, fast-paced environment - never a dull moment! The pay is alright; it may be a bit less than what I've made at other jobs, but doing something I actually enjoy is far more rewarding. You make great friends! Most of the employees get along great, and we regularly have potlucks and other fun activities. The managers are wonderful. They have no problem with giving time off or being respectful of your availability, even if this changes on short notice. They also regularly have contests, give positive feedback and offer constructive criticism. Some have complained about a lack of hours, and this at times can be a problem, but for the most part it's not. The managers at my store give adequate hours every week (and sometimes more) to the people who they know will get the job done and get it done correctly. Also, the managers are not pushy with you (to be pushy with customers) or customers themselves as far as "selling" goes.

Cons

Employees who have been around for many years continuously act as if they are above company policies and the way that things are supposed to be done. Thankfully, there are few of these ladies. Upper management has unrealistic expectations and most have not actually done the jobs they are criticizing the employees about. This can be frustrating, but if you can just make it through their visits, you'll be fine. In any retail or customer service position, you WILL have to deal with rude customers. Period. This can grate on the nerves, but if you can stay calm and actually try to help instead of shrugging them off, usually this can be turned into a positive situation. You will always have to work over by at least 30 minutes, especially if you close.

Pros

Surrounded by beautiful dresses! You make strong friendships with co-workers Some of the managers can be amazing and very helpful The training provides enough information to get you started selling 20% discount on all items So gratifying to help a bride pick their perfect dress! The trunk show is alot of fun because they let the employees model

Cons

Management at the top is very rude and disrespectful to new employees, but friendly to veteran or seasoned workers Every night at closing you must clean the entire store, and they'll make everyone stay late if it isn't satisfactory Floor is very hard- it's cement with a rug on top you must wear flats at all times...seriously Customers try to "bargain" with us as if David's Bridal is a yard sale. Our merchandise is quality, and you need to remember we can't lower the price. We clean and repair all damages and stains, sorry, no discount Employees who sell the dress must also do the pressing, cleaning, steaming and dye any accesories (shoes, purses etc.) and must sometimes come in on days off to do this It's long hours- and time off must be requested exactly two weeks in advance or it won't go though If it's very busy in the store they will give you two to three brides to cater to at the same time- what bride wants that? Divided attention loses sales! Bra room needs more of the popular size bras- sometimes every size needed is being utilized I've been working there quite a while and yet never get a platform room (only the side rooms). That's extremely unfair; they should rotate between employees There is no room for advancement For the pay, (which is $1.50 more than min. wage), we are grossly overworked. Comission is sadly a joke here. We get one but its very teeny. Bottom Line: If you are perhaps looking for a part time, mid-life job with minimal incentives, than I guess this works for you. I love the dresses and helping the customers, but that's about it.
