Where to start....
1) You never know if you are getting the money you make. I remember selling so much stuff and looking at my sales report before I sold. I had a manager ring my customer out for me as I had another bride. When I looked at my sales report after, I was still at the same number I was before I sold the dress. If you want the sale make sure you ring your customers out yourself.
2) If you want to work at David's Bridal, it will be a part time job. One thing they don't tell you is that they are super understaffed which means you will end up working full time hours, with no benefits and to top it off the lowest % in commission.
3) They give you a 30minute break..don't expect to get that break. They will pile people on you constantly. What makes no sense is if the store is understaffed and if there are a lot of people, why doesn't a manager take a customer when a consultant is busy? My suggestion is when you are about to finish with a customer, let a manager know you are taking your break after that customer. You need to say something or they will give you another customer. A break is needed for anyone in the work force.
4) Do expect to get in trouble for not calling your customers constantly and harassing them to come back in. You will end up loosing some people because they hate the constant call, just have to take it with a grain of salt. do expect to get in trouble for not selling a bride everything and then some.
5) If you are looking for a professional atmosphere to work at then this isn't #1 on the list. You are working with all women. Each on of them has something to say about someone else working there. It's a constant gossip going around. Everyone has something to say about everyone including the managers have things to say about every employee it's just how it goes and it is very unprofessional. And yes, managers talk about each other. I was able to just brush it off and just keep going on. you just have to realize that you won't see these people outside of work.
6) Work only the hours you are scheduled. One minute can change everything on your next upcoming paycheck. The problem as I said before is that they are so understaffed. Say a consultant is working 35-38 hours a week (which is considered full time. Anything over 35 is full time so people watch this if you work there!) and in a biweekly period you are selling close to $13,000. That won't even get you to make the high % commission.
Final thing...the reason why I left, was not only because how understaffed we were, but you just never know who is taking your sale. When you get your paycheck and are confused as to why you didn't get a bigger one, it's probably because you are getting cheated. My suggestion to future consultants and existing consultants, take a note book with you and keep it in your locker...and every sale you make, mark it down. Always check before and after on your sales report! If your sales report hasn't gone up after a sale and you had someone else ring your customer out, they probably took your commission. And make sure you aren't working over 35 hours if you are a part time consultant. It will ruin your paycheck and is considered full time hours. I feel like people are so stressed that work there because of this reason and once they hire people and stop working the part time employees like crazy it will be better but that won't happen anytime soon.
