Pros

Great pay and benefits compared to other similar large general contractors.

Cons

Zero work life balance. Executive’s and Upper level management are so disconnected from what it takes to run project’s. Each project team has one or two very intelligent and experience personnel, but the rest are clueless.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Providing competitive compensation and benefits is one of the many ways that we take care of our people, and as we know building complex projects can take a lot of energy, we hope you are taking advantage of our time off and wellness benefits as you need them. Building team members, relationships, and buildings is what we are focused on, so we appreciate hearing how you think we can improve. We encourage you to discuss your situation with your coach and local leadership so that they can support you.

Pros

DPR places a huge emphasis on culture and for the most part backs it up. The atmosphere is supportive and welcoming, and I feel that there is a healthy level of work-life balance which is not as common as it should be in the construction industry. The Richmond business unit has a fantastic sense of community and is a very pleasant place to work. The company overall has a strong reputation for tackling large and complex projects. If you work directly with projects (Precon or Operations), this is a great place to work with some of the best in the industry.

Cons

One of DPR's cultural strengths is also a source of weakness - leadership is not a traditional hierarchical structure and processes are not always well-defined. It can be difficult as a newer employee to navigate the ambiguity of this world. This type of environment can be a source of frustration for those who prefer / depend on a high degree of structure, but it can also be great for individuals who are self-motivated and willing to accept some of the inefficiencies that go along with it.

Thanks for sharing your feedback! We're proud to build large, exciting and complex projects and we couldn't do that without our talented team. We appreciate you describing how we are structured. Rather than following a seniority-based configuration and corporate pyramid, we emphasize roles, responsibilities and individual expertise to encourage collaboration and support project teams. It’s different than other companies, and we know that it can take some time to learn how we work. Our People Practices team is focused on building and delivering programs that continue to help new hires get up-to-speed quickly.

Pros

Great people work here. Small company feeling with large company projects/benefits. Tons of opportunity for growth and success.

Cons

Some travel between projects. Commutes can be 1+ hrs from home depending on current work.
