Pros

There are some really good people that work here

Cons

Unreadable expectations, absolutely zero work life balance, if your a salaried manager resolve to having no time with your family, dicks is about the money, no family values at all, most GMs (not all) are (how can I say this nicely) less than desirable. Some are downright childish. They tell you customer focus, but finish your tasks, if you don’t finish your tasks because of customer service, they tell you don’t make excuses, no tasking on weekends but that’s just what they say the expectation is task on the weekends. Did I mention there is no work life balance? You’ll work 60-70 hours a week if your salary. The GMs hold everyone accountable but themselves, they burn out the good associates, oh and get ready for everyone’s hours to be cut and I mean to the bare bones minimum. ASMs are forced to close with 3 associates, one at the register hopefully one in footwear and the other to run around everywhere else while the ASM handles the store operations. I could go on for hours. Before you apply here walk around the store and ask the associates how it is and ask them to be honest. Oh and $10 hr will be the max you’ll be paid and you’ll get at best a 2% raise after a year if your full time. But then at review time they will say no money in the budget we won’t be giving raises this year. You can go just about to any other retailer and make better money and have a better work life balance. While Corp employees are enjoying thanksgiving dinner with their families you’ll be working an extremely long shift on thanksgiving and Black Friday, I literally saw an associate work a full 24 hr shift just so he could make a decent wage and have a decent paycheck, and I am not exaggerating a full 24 hours straight. I am not trying to bash the company either, I am just being honest about the things that go on. And give you the best advice I can. If you want to make $9 an hour and work 15 hours a week you’ll probably enjoy it!

Pros

-They usually give you the hours that you ask for -Worked with me going to school and working at the same time -Sometimes got bonuses through competitions

Cons

-Horrible management. Micromanaged you, never had a good attitude, always played favorites, never recognized any hard work any employee did -The attendance system is so bad. You are allowed 8 points. If you show up late even by one minute, it's a point. No call no show, it's 3 points. If you call off without anyone to fill your shift (which they have over 75 employees on hand at my Dicks, you could find another employee) you get a point. If you get up to 8 points, you're fired and each point when you get it takes 6 MONTHS to fall off. - Employees are a joke. I've never worked with more unpleasant people. You either work with a bunch of 17 year olds who are lazy and never do anything, or, you are working with a bunch of 40-50 year olds who never had any other aspirations or goals except to work at a Dicks Sporting Goods. Everyone had horrible attitudes and started drama for no reason. -HR is also a joke. So many issues, my fellow employees called for and they word for word said, "There's nothing I can do for you, you have to figure it out for yourself." Don't even bother calling HR to get anything resolved. I've never seen them help with any situation. -I could go on and on.

Cons

Will work you into the ground without so much as a thank you. District managers play favorites on who gets promoted, and will hire outside the company instead of promoting within. Most managers stay in the office, bash people who work, and don’t punish the ones that don’t. The freight system is a disaster also. Multiple trucks in one week, only to send you the same item that you already have tons on backstock. They have cut hours and don’t hire new folks, so you end up doing a job that needs 3 people, alone. No vacation time until you have been full time for one year. So even if you have been working 35 hours a week (full time by IRS definition) for 6 months, and then get full time, you will still wait a year to get vacation. While you are doing this, you will watch the managers take 3-4 vacations a year.
