Pros

* Public accounting experience * Learning what management techniques motivate people and what techniques do not.

Cons

* Current audit software was internally developed and is a consistent work in process. * Partners are sales focused only under Jim Powers and have left the client development segment up to the managers, that normally pass the buck to the seniors. * Managers to Staff are graded on hours worked rather than quality of work and current client engagement. * Cast (Mostly Non-Accountants) are hired in at low salaries and expected to perform 40% of engagements to bring up the realizations. * Experienced, loyal employees are being let go in order to improve financials, leaving inexperienced teams. (This has been going on since 2016) * Partners are in a disarray as they do not all buy into the firm's future. * Employee moral is extremely low

Pros

Got my start at Crowe Horwath and am thankful I had the opportunity. The people are great, the company provides an abundance of free food during busy season, they push working from home occasionally, and my busy season hours usually topped off around 55 hrs. / week. PTO policy is somewhat generous at 4 weeks and I never had any issue using the time.

Cons

While I got lucky with my busy season, most of my coworkers were working 60-65 hrs. / week. Compensation seems to be roughly 5% under market (there was no pay bump for being promoted to senior, just the normal merit increase). Hated the open office concept that got introduced in late 2016. Morale seems to be in turmoil and there's been a lot of turnover at the staff / senior staff level from old coworkers I've talked to.

Pros

Professional and respectful culture Mostly good, competent people: from staff up to the CXO level Large majority of leaders put employees in a place to truly succeed

Cons

It may vary by Business Unit, but long hours are typical, 55+, even more during busy season. There is a lot of talk of "Work/Life" balance, but that just means you have some flexibility in where you put in your 60 hours that particular week. However, as a professional looking to succeed and move up the ladder, this is what you must do at any company, so it is not unique to Crowe. Although it is dramatically improving over the last 10 years, but there are still a few bad-actor partners who believe they are entitled to treat non-partners or back-office personnel poorly. This is certainly not unique to Crowe - all companies will have insecure people, through some sort of freak luck, rise into a position of power. Nonetheless, their egos are breathtaking to behold are a constant point of humor for many of the staff.
