      Respiratory and Monitoring Division - stay away from a marketing position

      Pros

      Nice facility Exciting industry Majority of co-workers are great

      Cons

      Respiratory and Monitoring division is toxic. There are a few individuals in the organization who are wreaking havoc and too many good folks have been let go for pretty lame reasons. HR and upper management needs to take a much closer look at the folks who head up the marketing department and correct the real problems that exist.

      Covidien - An Opportunity to Make a Difference

      Pros

      Covidien has good products that provide a real benefit to the customer. In addition, the pay is good, and the amount of work is reasonable. Travel can be heavy at times, but it is usually reasonable. The underlying technologies are exciting and differentiable in the marketplace. R&D is well led and generally done well.

      Cons

      Management does not provide effective leadership and direction, which contributes to inefficiency and frustration on the part of the staff. Marketing is a struggle as it doesn't have good talent across the team, has weak leadership that relies on the senior manager "idea du jour" instead of hard data to make decisions, and doesn't have sound marketing processes in place.

      If middle management can get their act together, then Covidien will be a true gem to work for.

      Pros

      If you are looking for a job that deals with product management, or product development, Covidien offers many opportunities in this area. Also, if you enjoy traveling, Covidien doesn't hold back when employees can benefit from visiting manufacturing plants, vendors, distribution centers, etc. If you enjoy working at manufacturing plants, they offer relocating with what seems to be at ease. This is a great way to share and perform "best practices" amongst the company.

      Cons

      Middle management - what a joke! The management I had to deal with were made managers because they were sitting in the same seat for too many years without advancing. Covidien doesn't understand that not everyone can manage people.
