      Bad Management, Good Co-Workers, Stymied By Fear

      Pros

      There are a lot of learning opportunities i.e. Six Sigma or computer programs/systems. Covidien does off excellent benefits, 3 weeks vacation, matched 401K, stock purchase program, and yearly bonus.

      Cons

      There is no job security. Every couple of months, there is another staff reduction/reorganization. Outsourcing is the key driver for the mass layoffs. Since staffing is shrinking, every department is understaffed and overworked. There is absolutely no work/life balance so say goodbye to your health, hobbies, and personal relationships. Covidien does not allow employees to be references for former colleagues.

      Pros

      Above average pay, good advancement if you can get into the "good ole boy" network. Work with some good people (but usually not for long, the good ones rarely stay)

      Cons

      No vision, no leadership, no support of rank and file. Company seems to exist only for profit of senior leaders and stockholders. No support for new product development: research money swings wildly from one year to the next...one time high, another time all money taken away.
