Pros

The company that contracted their catering to Compass were lovely.

Cons

I went to work for Compass after completing so much red tape/ police checks/ contract pages, testing ect, all to get a head barista job. Yeah they loved me, the company that contracted Compass loved me. But after a week I could see it was a mess. The company was paying for 3 hospitality professionals to do their catering. The site manager sat on his backside all day for a month doing zoom meetings with other compass staff, all though he wasn’t Included in the 3 staff assigned to working there. When one staff was only casual and would only be coming on certain days, the site manager said, I would have to pick up the slack so a role I’ve never done, I wasn’t able to do and wasn’t going to do as it was not on my job description in my contract. He wanted me to do that so he could stay at his computer all day. I left the next day.

Frustrating and disappointing experience.

Pros

- some lovely nice people - when they are good they are great. - pets seem to be allowed at some offices - nice kitchen snacks

Cons

- pay feels uncompetitive for size of company. - lip service to diversity with training materials but little interest in reality - this matters as this is a dealbreaker for some. - Lip service to being open to dialogue but quickly close ranks when feedback is not to their liking. Very much not a lateral structure if that is what you are after. - Reckless disregard for employee security and health and sloppy checks on desk setup etc. - significant admin and red tape on basic things like passwords and access to IT equipment - this meant much time spent without access to a work computer. - in my office offices it felt very racially unrepresentative. - Governance and administrative issues causing confusion further down the chain. - HR heavily biased to managers - no feeling of safety as an employee. - Emergency helpline does not work. I could go on but will not.

Chef and everyone senior to you in the kitchen is always on your head pushing you to do everything even if it isn't required
