Pros

I got to choose my own hours Going home

Cons

Half an hour break for a 9 hour day Gossipy and clicky co-workers who are lazy Have to complete an extensive course about health & safety, food hygiene & other legal stuff which takes weeks, you have to complete in your own time and didn't get told this at interview Didn't like you having toilet breaks and got questioned whenever you needed the toilet.

Pros

Easy online training/employee system, easy onboarding and exit. Great staff selection because of strict criteria and opportunities for very qualified temporary visa holders as well as students.

Cons

Felt like working in a developing country. No rights, no WHS - this was completely ignored. At least 3 injuries during my time there with no support or change from management. Reporting any incidents was discouraged (required to wear heels on very slippery floor, glasses would regularly break in the dishwasher and cut staff when handling). Extreme cost-cutting to the point that staff from other divisions and companies had to help each other out (eg cutting down chefs to the point that the dishwasher had to cook, housekeeping assisting waiters, staff was so overworked and stretched that even the high-level guests felt sorry). This became even worse after I left which is unfortunate as good quality staff left as well.

Pros

The Company under previous CEO was a great place to work. Very supportive, collaborative and lots of opportunity for advancement. Their "CAN DO" value was seen every day.

Cons

The pay is horrible especially when you add all the overtime hours and stress. No work/life balance. I would have been making an additional $20k if I had worked anywhere else. I stayed for as long as I did because the company was previously so supportive and provided lots of advancement. Under new CEO the company no longer seems to care for its employees and only for the bottom line. Layoffs everywhere. "You make your numbers or else" type of mentality. They laid off almost all of the original tenured team and replaced them with new ruthless younger employees who have zero interest in learning from those that truly understand the business.
