Pros

You get free tuition after 2 years

Cons

This is for the medical center campus. Hierarchical system in which a group of older people who refuse to retire, run the place. No way of moving up, you get a 2% raise and the health insurance goes up 1.8% every year so you lose it all. I have been there for almost 12 years this December and I have only gotten approximately a 7k raise based on inflation which has gone to insurance. If you're looking to actually contribute to your workplace, save yourself some time and headaches, and don't even try it. People here are not open to change. Managers get no formal training and they don't even know basic HR procedures.

Pros

Some very bright and caring students. Mid and entry level staff are generally good and support one another within your own office.

Cons

Terribly competitive and toxic among students and upper level administrator. My passion is education, and Columbia was an example of when egos and self-interest trump progress and the purpose of learning. Ended up with mental health issues and advise of therapist, doctor, and partner was to leave as soon as possible.

Pros

It is good for doing research and if you like New York City then you will enjoy the main campus on the Upper West Side/Harlem.

Cons

The administration and IT is going to drive you nuts and you will struggle to make it to the end of the month. Medical campus is located in a bad and dirty neighborhood. The metro station (168th Street) probably the worst in Manhattan.
