Great Business model, Phenomenal growth and strong leadership

Cons

Consulting usually demands longer hours. Coupled with offshoring , it is always a 40+ work week. Such expectations are set right from the beginning though.

Cognizant has provided a challenging work environment. I have been very satistifed with the compentency of our management. There are definitely opportunities for professional & career growth

Cons

I haven't been very satistified with my salary thus far. You really need to make management before you start seeing a good salary and respectable bonuses. Most people at below-management levels in our office received bonuses in the neighborhood of 300-500 last year, which is a hard pill to swallow when managers are making 7,000 - 12,000 bonuses. While there are definitely opportunities for growth, it seems that a LOT of people get stuck at the Senior Associate level. After that, the people that I know who are above that level seem to experience steady career growth and professional development. You really need to make sure you are doing something to stand out to get beyond the SA level, or you will get stuck & frustrated. I guess that is the whole "manage up or manage out" philosophy, but I do know a lot of talented people that are struggling to break through to the next level - it is very competative.

Empowerment, entrepreneurship, client focus, attention to employees and results oriented culture are some of the good parts of working for Cognizant. Employees have extraordinary freedom to do what is right for the customer, company and employees. It is a very good training ground for entreprenuers. The focus to meet and exceed customer expectations is core to the company culture.

Cons

Cognizant is a very decentralized organization and clear communication of strategy is sometimes lacking. The company is quite conservative and does not take many risks. Nor has been a pioneer in taking the industry to new directions.
