Pros

The primary reason that keeps me going is the students that you work with in your role. It is rewarding to be able to help them academically as well as socially and emotionally.

Cons

The management is a little unstable, and there are certain communication problems. Overall, it has not negatively impacted me, but I know of some peers around me who have felt the consequences of that.

Pros

CYLA has great work culture and you are definitely not a number to them. The staff genuinely cares about each other and the work they do for the community. Always someone to advocate for you. Great opportunities/connections.

Cons

Mostly the con is the pay. Very entry level pay for lots of work. The benefits (401k, health, etc) is amazing so that's a plus. There isn't a ton of manager training and there are many shifts that happen.

Pros

They have a strong mission and the work you do day to day is fulfilling and fun. If you care about kids and have the PATIENCE to work with them it will be a beneficial experience for you.

Cons

Their conflict resolution is dangerous. Zack of communication. Say they can’t fire people that are clearly emotionally damaging the kids we work with. Very messy situations that were handled recklessly. They could care less about what happens to you so long as it doesn’t fall back on them. So yeah super secretive. Gave them 3 stars because i enjoyed working with the kids and how it gave me the opportunity to get in a school and get a feel for the environment.
