Pros

- They pay well. - Opportunity to learn lots of networking technologies if you are willing to put the effort. - Flexible hours and easy to telecommute (everyone gets a laptop). - Good employee stock purchase plan (decent discount on out of pocket stock purchase).

Cons

- Flex hours + laptop quickly become an excuse for being asked to work anytime, all the time, even evenings and weekends. - Life/work balance sucks. - Culture of micromanagement and lack of trust in employees, even experienced ones. - Outdated/broken processes and tools, which makes all those additional long hours spent seem like a waste. - No periodic salary increases unless you get promoted, which can take forever. Not uncommon to find people with the same salary for over 5 years, even some up to 10 if they started high. - No stock options or RSUs unless you are at the top of the food chain. - 4 weeks of vacation never increase regardless of tenure and if you or family get sick, there are no sick days, so you need to use vacation days. Also forced to use vacation days during mandatory Christmas break company wide shutdown. - A lot of legacy systems and technologies, so there could be very few opportunities to work on latest and greatest tech depending on the organization you are in. - Support heavy load. Most developers spend > 50% of the time fixing bugs. - Lots of politics, and I mean A LOT. Most times politics win over technical merit or even common sense. - Some tendency for upper management to "bully" employees (public shaming, escalating up the management chain vs one on one and discussing alternatives).

Your feedback means a lot to us and we will take your concerns into consideration. To address your concern with work/life balance, we are a global company and need to accommodate our employees all around the world. Although this may lead to meetings at off hours, we offer flexibility to our employees so that they can manage their schedule to accommodate different time zones--such as taking an extra break during the day to schedule a doctor's appointment, or go to the gym.

Pros

The work is interesting and challenging and you get to work with some really motivated and talented people. Our use of vendors to augment employees allows us to be flexible with our headcount and ratios while getting a lot of good work done. Change is happening so there is anyways something new to drive goals and initiatives; it doesn't get stale.

Cons

Our executives are out of touch with the general employee population and if you aren't in the right circles, it is difficult to get heard or get promotional opportunities. We talk a lot about our People Deal and how each employee matters but it feels like it is really The Some People Deal, depending on who you know. We do layoffs of good employees instead of managing our vendor population and don't facilitate moving impacted employees to open positions within the company. As a manager and leader, I usually feel the good outweighs the bad and support the leadership but I'm starting to wonder.

Pros

Everyone at Cisco is hardworking and extremely loyal to the company and it's success. The salaries and benefits are excellent that the company as a whole is world class.

Cons

Business has always been based on numbers and revenue; however since the new regime has taken over, there seems to be an increased focus on numbers and much less focus on the people who have helped create the company. The sense of loyalty that the employee feels towards the employer does not seem to be reciprocated. Senior Executives, seem to be further disconnected to staff. There is an undercurrent of insecurity, no one knows when they will be next on the layoff list. The warmth and family feeling is long gone, clearly it can't be sustained forever, but outside of a few groups the company is being run by accountants. Each organization is fighting for it's overhead and there is no feeling of we are One Company.

We know this has been a hard week for many employees, but our leadership team is making hard decisions with a heavy heart, in order to serve the greater company as a whole. Cisco stands by its People Deal and will continue to support its employees.
