Pros

Large employer; lots of opportunity; Cisco is a market leader and an employer of choice. The campus is huge and there are lots of jobs available. The transportation shuttle between buildings is a great gas-saver. Liked being able to telecommute and have a flexible work schedule. Enjoyed attending the all hands meetings hosted by John Chambers, he is a good speaker and the sessions were entertaining and informative. Cisco has great giveaways to new employees. Free onsite perks like free drinks and popcorn. Nice cafeteria facilities with good selections and reasonable prices. I liked that I could do my personal banking, stationery, and shipping at Cisco too.

Cons

Large employer; can get lost as a little fish in a huge ocean; lots of autonomy and self management expected. Had to find my own chair, computer, desk equipment on my first day - not a great first impression for a new employee. Moved 10 times in 2 years - don't get used to a place or "home", you'll be losing it soon. Management expectations not always clearly communicated. Feedback not always timely or direct. The only constant is change. Work not evenly distributed - some working ridiculous hours and some not hardly working at all. Perception is everything, isn't it?

Pros

Overall a great company. Employees genuinely like their job. There is lots of flexability in terms of when and when you work. With a 60,000 person company, there is also lots of opportunity to move around and try different things. The management also practives what they preach (the Vp's all have small offices and fly coach). They encourage continued education and there is a great selection of classes at 'Cisco University' that you can take to enhance your skill set.

Cons

1% raise pool each year. This does not exactly motivate everyone to excel. The company is also pretty frucal when it comes to travel and stock options.

Pros

I have worked for several companies now and Cisco truly is a nice company to work for. The benefits are good, the free soda is great

Cons

Opportunities for career advancement are far too limited. I have been with the company for going on 8 years and have had one raise. I see tons of people with the title "Technical Leader" with a BIG fat paycheck that got where they are as a result of joining Cisco in the growth days. While there is nothing wrong with rolling the dice with a company and growing with them, problems arise when the growth ceases. It is irritating to see, as the years go on, to see my contributions exceeding those of many of the 'Technical Leaders' yet I know it is hopeless to ever advance to that level in this company.
