Pros

Fast aggressive workplace. Too much focus on operational issues and not much on learning and skill development.

Cons

Will be hard to learn new skills and change jobs. Anytime you change you are placed at the back of the promotion queue. So easy to get pigenholed. I changed mutliple roles and found that each time I was placed in the back of the queue. After few years, I was ridiculously lower grade, while they brought fresh people with unproven skills at much higher levels. Also my manager gave me a high speech about innovation and doing things differently to grow while people were coming in at a lot higher grade without doing any of these things. That is the biggest issue.

Pros

Cisco is a decent company that cares about its employees and is a very relaxed enviroment. A good portion of the people get to work after 10 and leave around 4 with a long lunch break and are able to do to the work efficiently.

Cons

The experience seems to vary greatly between teams. Avoid the Java folks and you'll be fine ;) They are trying a little to hard to make sure "the sun never sets on Cisco software development" and it creates communication problems for many of the teams. A lot of the employees just slip by but its like that everywhere.
