Pros

Very competitive pay and benefits. Lots of opportunities to change positions and grow.

Cons

Communication in a company this size has its challenges. It's not a one-size fits all, even though the company tries to be. Changing of positions happens often and this makes the learning curve difficult to manage as well as getting projects accomplished.

Pros

#1 pro = High, competitive pay. Great benefits. 401k match. Flexible hours. Can work from home occasionally if the nature of your job allows it. 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off). Performance management and reviews are, for the most part, fair and generous as long as you're a top performer. Challenging work.

Cons

Even with a flexible schedule, expect to work lots of overtime/weekends, especially during busy project seasons. Lots of favoritism happens in every work group. Random layoffs/reorgs, even more so now that most jobs/functions are moving to Houston, Texas. Must be willing to relocate to get the best job opportunities/promotions.

Pros

Excellent pay and benefits, 1st class people. Work life balance, many supervisors and managers are good to work for (and with).

Cons

Cyclical industry. You have to be ready for downsizing. Being aligned politically with the right people helps you survive (but this is true for any organization). Chevron's culture is "too nice." We very seldom fire poor performers -- we wait for a downsizing, then clean house. People seldom confront each other in meetings (political correctness, not wanting to offend). This drives a lot of passive aggressive behavior. But once you understand the culture, it is a great place to work. We are laid back compared to Exxon.
