Pros

-Good benefits, excellent matching 401k, pension -Supports volunteer work -Everyone is extremely nice and abrasive behavior is frowned upon -Approachable management -Best culture compared to other oil majors

Cons

-Low compensation compared to competitors -Difficult to get promotions unless more senior members leave or you are willing to constantly one around to different groups -Career development is almost nonexistent -Not really a leader in oil and gas more of a follower despite what management says or would like you to believe -Lack of a clear business strategy and inability to manage downturns as well as the other oil majors -Workers are a bit too nice to the point where it conflicts with executing for the greater good for the business -Layoffs but upper management is mostly untouched. Is that fair?

Pros

Large oil company with a lot of hard working people, good benefits, and work flexibility

Cons

The current downturn due to the oil price is slowly revealing the inability of management to have a vision or even a plan. External consulting firms were hired to manage lay-off (yes, exactly like in the movie "Office space") and management levels are left untouched. The current pulse is of a ship that is slowly sinking and everyone will just live through that. Not a good place to be right now.

Pros

Lots of opportunity if you're willing to stay in Bakersfield or go to Houston. If you're willing to work hard you can rise in pay and standing fairly quickly. Good culture of everyday respect amongst peers, unless you decide to leave the company for a competitor (see cons and advice below).

Cons

Extreme variability in how the company's values are interpreted by different business units. HR policies are not consistent across groups. San Joaquin Valley Business Unit makes up its own rules on how to deal with employees who leave for competitors. You are released the same day you give notice if you are headed to a competitor, so beware all the relationships you have built will be severed instantly. Plan ahead and say goodbye beforehand.
