Review for El Segundo Refinery

Pros

An opportunity to meet lots of good people, and develop excellent people skills by working with all types of diverse people.

Cons

There are lots of job opportunites, but mostly for mechanical and process engineers. People are always reacting to problems, versus being proactive. Very difficult to be focused on 1-2 priorities. There are way too many priorities (I can only speak for El Segundo refinery).

In the military

Pros

Large corporation like being in the military. Good place for young employees out of college. All decisions are made by committee so no accountability (Not a good thing for me personally).

Cons

Not much room at midlevel for advancment. Don't count on promotions! If you come in from acquired company there's not trust in your abilities... Employees are tired of trying and most are just marking time.

Pros

Pay, benefits, big name, good for people that want stability and a solid paycheck

Cons

Finance function is corporate acctg. so be aware that is what you will be doing. Rigid timelines to switching jobs - 18 months, but definitely a superior oil company.
