Pros

There's a reason Chevron ranks in the top 10 for best companies to work for. Good benefits like matching 401K, a retirement pension, they even allow their employees to give others monetary awards and recognition for appreciation. Unlike other companies that like to keep you at your job if you're good at it, Chevron encourages their employees to move around the company and develop your business acumen to be more well rounded. The work life balance is very good and I think for the most part, Chevron tries to develop a very good professional working environment with all the behavioral training that they do.

Cons

I can definitely see if being a bit competitive when it comes time to move positions. Chevron is always restructuring and making strategic moves to better their position in the industry so if you get too comfortable in your job, you'll be left behind.

Pros

-Competitive, but not superior pay and benefits -Offers similar benefits to peer companies (980 schedule, pension, etc.) -Offers fitness centers similar to peer companies -I worked in Downstream. Most of the reviews on Glassdoor are Upstream. I would have liked to work Upstream but my transfers were blocked, even after I had met my time commitments.

Cons

-Experienced hires are used to fill positions vacated by their high potential employees. Do not expect to move up if you did not begin your career with Chevron. -Bullying by managers is encouraged and rewarded. Management is encouraged to motivate by fear rather than reward and recognition. -The Performance Management Process is not followed. Employee rankings are conducted before the Performance Management Form is filled out and discussed with your supervisor. -Blame is encouraged rather than find the root cause of an incident. -Working off-Fridays, weekends, and holidays was the norm more than the exception. This was expected rather than rewarded. -There are safety issues at the refineries that have been overlooked for years. The management is not committed to bring in additional resources to resolve the issues. -I returned to my former employer and immediately saw a HUGE difference between companies. There is no doubt in my mind that this was an unsafe and hostile work environment. I would not work for this company again.

Worst environment I have ever worked in. Inadequate leadership at its best.

Pros

Industry leader in the Upstream market. Very profitable. Great work-life balance schedule. Extremely safety oriented. Invests in learning/training opportunities for its employees. Competitive compensation. Good bonus and 401K plan.

Cons

Frequently promotes individuals based on who they like vs. performance, knowledge, interpersonal skills, and leadership qualities. Does not value diversity (race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, culture, personality, etc.) as it claims...the corporation overall (especially certain regions and business units) is a "Good Ole Boy" company and does nothing to change it. Places individuals with poor interpersonal skills, inadequate knowledge/credentials/experience, of unethical character, and/or who do not possess the necessary qualities of a leader, into leadership positions.
