Pros

Well this was a good place to work I enjoyed it. The pay was good and the environment was friendly. I was let go due to the current economic situation. I would like to go back if things turn around. Overall I would say that this is a great company!

Cons

Peoria is not a great place to live. Well being let go was a huge downfall. I guess that I feel that more planing could have been done to save jobs. Overall I don't have to many complaints about working at caterpillar and would definitely accept a job again if I was offered.

Pros

We build big things, what could be cooler than that? Lots of interesting people to work with. Great opportunity to travel and see the world if you are a hard worker. Great to talk to people who have worked there for a very long time, great to hear stories of 'back in the day'. Related to that, lots of retirement parties as some of the old timers begin to retire.

Cons

Tight deadlines always..no one seems to know how to plan anything. Training budget seems to get cut earlier and earlier every year, but then EOS results say training stinks....related much?

Pros

Great job ownership, decent pay, good benefits, strong growth, world leader, great brand name, great vision, definitely thinking ahead of other US based companies towards future survival and growth. Since its inception over 80 years ago, Caterpillar has grown to be the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines. In partnership with our worldwide dealer network, we drive positive and sustainable change on every continent. We deliver products, services and technologies in three principal lines of business: Machinery, Engines and Financial Products. As a global, diverse technology leader, Cat commits to excellence in all that we do. We are proud to be a leader in building the world's infrastructure, and in enabling progress for millions of people around the globe

Cons

rapid globalization needed, need to monitor promotions (inequality in promotions), lack of commitment in factory and other areas, need to get rid of union and all employees need to work towards company common goals. No onsote fitness club, lack of diversity in 401K funds, needs a high level review with existing supply base and as needed shift to LCC, need to improve relations with supply base. Several suppliers are not being competetive with market place and hindering CAT profit, very soon hopefully they need to realize or they will out of business, need atleast 3 suppliers for each and every component.
