Pros

Pay is good, and employees are gernerally well treated compared to similar companies. There are plenty of opportunities for a broad work experience with good lateral mobility. The company is being well run at the corporate level, there's a good strategy and clear direction for the future.

Cons

There's so much corporate control and inertia that it can be very frustrating to get the job done in any novel way. Red tape in general is overbearing. The emphasis is on averting risk, rather than encouraging enterprise. The company is very slow to adopt new practices, especially in HR areas.

Pros

Good pay, everyone wants to do the right thing and are willing to help. Management teams preach alot about getting people engaged and "walk the talk". Vast majority of the people at Caterpillar are hard working and there is a team mentality at getting things done. Very conscious about sustanability and moving the Company from Good to Great.

Cons

Frustratingly slow to change and accomplish tasks due to it matrix organization style. They need to take performance management more seriously as there are people here that have failed in their jobs, but are still around collecting big salaries. Actuely aware of their lack of diversity, but don't appear really sure how to change it. Caterpillar culture is admirable, but many lack a "common-sense" approach to dealing with, and tackling, problems.

Pros

Can move all over the world. Around 80% of the employee's at CAT will retire in the next 15 years. With 100,000+ employees, there is a huge opportunity for advancement quickly.

Cons

A lot of "old time" manager's and the "good ole boys club". There is an unsaid understanding that you are expected to work 10 hours a day or more once you are in management. Some facilities will pay for the extra work, some will not.
