Pros

good pay for midwest small town cost of living good training international exposure/travel

Cons

most employees have relatives also in management. Lots of sons with dad's as VP's, Department Heads, etc. . . also work at Cat. In other words, about 40% of the the employees working in Peoria have one ofrthe more of the following "qualifications": 1. Grew up on Peoria 2. wen to Bradley, UI, or ISU 3. One or both Parents work at Cat 4. Father/Mother is department head, VP or other influential manager. 5. Nepotism is prevelent if you look closely. Very abnormal for a fortune 200 Company that says it values Diversity. 6. International assignments largely are now being filled with candidates from local countries. 7. 65% of Peoria community has not traveled overseas, or even lived outside of Peoria their whole lives. 8. Chicago, and St. Louis are 3 hours away

Pros

Submitting my two weeks notice.

Cons

CAT over-hired and over-paid during COVID rebound and are low on cost cutting options with 47’s tariffs (but glad to support the ballroom boondoggle). Meanwhile, they’re bring forced to prop up their overpriced commercial real estate leases since many of their institutional investors own these buildings. So they aim to cut headcount and save cost by forcing RTO. Twenty year expert veterans of the company are leaving for refusing to wear diapers while mediocrity sticks around. Not exactly a winning long term strategy. When I get a “Straight from Joe” note, it goes straight to the trash.

Pros

Good bonuses, holiday shut down for a week in December, steady company overall, pay can be great, but you need to make sure you negotiate upfront as initial offers I’ve seen have not been good. This seems to be a place people will stay for

Cons

Lots of re-orgs, people are promoted through who they know not by their quality of work or knowledge, so much bloat as usual for a large company, not a lot of room for growth in the tech space and very stagnant when it comes to growth and adoption of new tech and processes, lack of accountability with employees- lots of projects take much longer due to being pushed around because no one wants to own them or work on them, process is so heavy and a complete mess, RTO is strictly enforced for some but not others. This is a place people will stay for years and just coast the rest of their career, so not a lot of passion or innovation in areas.
