Despicable salary

Pros

- Your working schedule is completely up to you. You can work 1 hour a week or 100 hours. - Students are lovely and very enthusiastic to learn English. - Tutors can reach out to support staff if they have any issues such as technical problems, issues with pay or with students. - Pay is each week, almost always on time.

Cons

- Pay is not low, but despicably low. At 0.17 cents a minute or 10.20 per hour, Most of us teachers have qualifications and teaching experience. We also put in extra time for our students such as developing grammar and speaking lessons. The students pay a lot for Cambly therefore they expect results. If you don't put in extra time for some students then its possible your rating will decrease therefore you will get less students. There is no possibility to be promoted as a tutor. I only recommend Cambly as a side job because if you live in the USA or the EU, this salary is only enough to pay rent, nothing else.

Bad for income; good in some ways as a hobby

Pros

Cambly is hugely profitable for itself while creating the illusion of student- and tutor-friendliness. Meeting students from all over is the one positive, and it is indeed very positive. Note that you will make less than their quoted $10/hr, since unpaid time is required for prep, admin, notes, waiting for students, etc.

Cons

No respect for tutors, as demonstrated by pay, security, responsiveness, & other parameters. Cambly owns its tutors' video presence & is likely using it to create AI digital "tutors" & content now being beta-tested. There will of course be no compensation for or acknowledgement of the tutors from which this content is appropriated.

Pros

*Easy to get spur of the moment students *Can set your own hours and schedule

Cons

*Hourly rate is misleading (Cambly pays by the minute and partial minutes aren't included, eg. a class that lasts 6 minutes and 50-59 seconds is paid for 6 minutes only) *A large number of students will call and hang up if they don't like your appearance; also there are a lot of prank calls from students who aren't serious *Getting repeat students is difficult as many use the app as a one-off speaking practice *Teachers are held to a high standard (which is appropriate) but Cambly doesn't practice what it preaches and doesn't hold students accountable for their behaviour; the company rhetoric claims to value its teachers but their actions don't support their claims
