Pros

I would have to say that after working for Cambly for over a month, I have never found a better job. I appreciate the flexibility of the hours you can work and the connections you can make by simply talking to people. I am a very people-oriented person and this job is simply fabulous.

Cons

There is not really any way to see the reviews that people write about you. I would like it if Cambly could give us tutors the option to see the reviews students write so that we can improve our performance.

Pros

The majority of students are great! If you work consistent hours and post your schedule, you can easily get enough of a student following that "regulars" will not only call back at random but also schedule time with you. Make sure to message students to tell them you appreciated speaking with them or highlight some part of the conversation you enjoyed to show your sincere engagement with them. You can work from home. Scheduling (priority hours) is very flexible. Being able to message students who have called you before is a great way to contact students about lessons and the like. When you can get calls, you can make good money. Usually, though, the pay scale comes to about $8.50USD (6 hours of talk on a 7 hour work period schedule) on a good day and $5.70 on a bad day. (4 hours of talk on a 7 hour work period.)

Cons

Although I am working full time hours, I am not making full-time money, mainly because there is no real supplement if you don't get calls during a priority hour. Students have a Cambly app, but tutors must use their computers. Pay is barely supplemented if you're logged in but no students call. (Guaranteed $2.55.) Personally, I've had students call, only to laugh at and insult my personal appearance (I have very dark skin, and I cannot tell you how many times I've answered a call only to be told, "You're a blackie!" or "You're a darkie!" There are two countries in particular where I get these types of calls and the lack of support from Cambly is very disturbing. Some students hang up at the sight of me, but then call back repeatedly. (I've been hung up on the same student before. I think that it's an algorithm thing.) If you get disconnected from a student, waiting for them to come back during a priority hour can be difficult if you're getting many other calls since Cambly will release your hours if you miss too many. Messaging is not filtered. I had a student message me asking if he could "masturbate for ten minutes looking at you? " (yes, in those exact terms) I have the option to automatically have the camera of the student I'm speaking to off if they're a free trial student, but not if they're a private student. I've seen genitals greet me for one session, and three minutes into a very regular conversation, a man pulled down his shirt and started to rub his nipple and who knows what else (I ended the call very quickly.)
