Pros

Benefits are good. Most staff are hard working, nice people.

Cons

Questioning their ethics. Male supervisors make more than female managers. Pay ranges vary and are not consistent with any sort of pay scale if they are even being used. Staff has inadequate guidance from management and is floundering with what is expected of them.

Pros

Pay was good. Time commitments was good Benefits were passable and not terribly expen

Cons

It may be an ESOP, but the company is run by Project management. CH2M Hill is supposed to be one of the most Ethical Firms in the USA, but I didn't find this to be accurate. Part of my position was to source services. I discovered a major flow in the pre-existing plans. Through my skills and knowledge, I found a safe, lower cost and much lower risk solution. For this I did receive verbal commendations. However, the Project Manager and the JV Partner at the Project site did not appreciate my disrupting their plans - I was accused of being somehow tied to my 'blokes'. A role at CH2M Hill could be OK, but you have to review the REAL power structure for your job. I was not working for the PM; I wasn't even supposed to be working for the Procurement Manager - I was just tossed to the wolves by the technical director to satisfy the PM. Pros

The pay is competitive and benefits are excellent. The projects and work are interesting. Having many offices allow staying with the company when moving to another geographic area. Telecommuting is commmon. Office facilities are genrally very good.

Cons

The company expects a lot of free side work in the form of presentations, mentoring, community service projects, etc. Billing is expected to be 100%. Poor support for attending training and professional development events. There is no way to settle disagreeements between project managers and technical experts. The corporate culture fosters blaming and backstabbing rather than collaboration and problem solving. As in many large engineering firms, the environmental division is a sideshow to support the engineering practice. Work is stovepiped with poor communicaitons and cooperation. Long-time employees say it has grown quickly through acquisitions but still operates like a small local office. Individuals market their services internally to project managers with little coordination or support. Records and document retreival infrastructure is very poor. Bonus pay is not common. Managers must rate at least 15 percent of employess as unsatisfactory. Workloads are uneven and vacation/sick leave must be saved to carry through light work periods. Orientaiton and integration is poor without clear explanations of expectations.
