Good company if you like a non-traditional IT Challenge

Pros

The unique nature of the business offers a lot of interesting challenges for managing IT Infrastructure in the over two hundred offices around the globe. Management has a good attitude and staff are good people. Variety of clients with different requirements. Overall positive place to work. Opportunities to telework and a large number of locations to work from.

Cons

The IT culture is to buy "magic bullet" products on promises that it will solve CH2M Hill's unique challenges; which they never do. You probably aren't going to work with the latest and greatest IT technologies at CH2M, pretty much vanilla Windows Servers and telecom equipment.

Pros

-interesting work -variety of work -flexible schedule and teleworking opportunities -good amount of vacation time

Cons

-difficult, negative people create a very low morale -billable hours difficult to meet with a competition for all work -fear of losing job and what will be their next move -expectations to bill less hours than actually spent on a project with any other work being on your own personal time -too many very short projects which means constant looking for work/worrying about finding hours -expectations to be connected at all times and "on-call" 24/7 for non urgent work, or due to procrastinating by others -burn out very quickly -poor health benefits and 401k match, unacceptable for such a large company -poor quality control of deliverables, affected by budgets -no ability to move within the company

Pros

Everyone is very friendly and encouraging. They have a great work-life balance with many opportunities for volunteering.

Cons

I do not have negative comments about the company. Some logistical issues with getting properly set-up but those were fixed very quickly.
