Promotion to assistant professorship is competitive! limited internal funding for postdocs postdoc salary is tough to live on in Boston Boston Medical Center is not close to the subway (T) ...but life is pretty good

Good benefits, good people, great students, generally reasonable hours. People tend to stay in their positions for long periods of time, generally because they like them.

Cons

Very difficult to advance. There isn't much room at the professional level for promotion. Salaries are not competitively high to be able to afford Boston housing easily.
