Pros

Boston is a great city. You are surrounded by an excellent intellectual atmosphere and the city has great culture and nightlife.

Cons

Again, many (a majority) of the faculty in the department show little commitment to graduate student professional development. That said, I think this is slowly being recognized as the department is making changes under the new chair of the department.

Pros

Salary was livable in Boston. Healthcare was provided with the BU clinic as the "primary care". This was part of a PhD program, so the "work" was part of my own research. Very little pressure, as long as I was making good progress.

Cons

Bureaucracy was more inefficient than other universities I've been a member of, but it works.
