Learning while you work, working on campus near your dorm, can be funded by work-study grants or UROP research money, in the summer they can pay for housing as well.

Cons

Working in research is inherently stressful and time consuming.

Good benefits, such as health insurance, vacation days, sick days, etc. Chance to have tuition remission so that you can have free education.

Cons

Pay is below average. Not much chance to go upper level. If you're on technical direction position but not as a faculty, it's not stable.
