Pros

Very good faculty members. They are all very talented and smart people, and they are all very nice. You can talk to any faculty member about physics, research, or any topic. Moreover, they are all very responsible people, and doing great researches themselves. For the student community, all are very clever and love physics. Always talk to each other academically. Besides, grad students here like to have fun, so you can expect a lot of activities organized by students. Physics department frequently invites speakers from other institutions or universities to give presentations, which is very helpful to broaden the perspective of knowledge.

Cons

There are not much free food in the department. The office for grad students who do not have advisors have no windows.

Pros

Lots of opportunities as it is a big campus, classes, gym, events. Opportunity for continuing education is great as they supplement tuition significantly. Coworkers are the best and overall they hire excellent people. Decent benefits package, althought short term disability could be better.

Cons

Large campus = lot so burocracy so sometimes it is hard to accomplish a task that has long standing change/benefits. Pay is usually slightly below market. Can b hard to advance. Sometimes felt like the work-life balance wasn't appreciated. Often made to feel that using our significant vacation time that came as part of our benefits package was a burden on the office. Quick to deduct 15 min of sick time if you had a morning dr. appt and came in 15 min late, regardless of if you were salaried, worked late, didn't take lunch.
