Nice pay for a Cult

Pros

Good benefits, just have to put up with a lot of micromanagements.

Cons

Micromanagement; Managers that have no experience for that role. They use you to make themselves look good; requiring everyone to be onsite for meetings, even when you are remote, because they have to show numbers. Hanging out for team events are required, or you get questions about being supportive of the BCG team, whatever; it's a cult. Most of the people are there for the benefits; they have a very sick spouse and/or they get pregnant, once they have the baby and/or babies, they leave the company. Most people are out on leave, due high levels of stress!

BCG's overhiring taken out on staff

Pros

Really smart and nice people. Learn a lot from projects (when staffed). Fun outings and offices are very nice.

Cons

BCG screwed up big time and hired way more people than they had work for. Now they are looking to find problems where none exist as a way to out counsel really good people. The problem is not the As and Cs but is the lack of work because BCG isn't selling enough - their prices are too high. It's really insidious that BCG fails to own up to this like McKinsey did and just admit that they need to do a layoff instead of making up performance issues. The other problem is MDPs are underselling work so when you do get staff you have to work 80 hours a week to meet what the client expects and this does not count toward billability.

Pros

Mentorship and apprenticeship is unmatched with any job out there.

Cons

Firm has changed from a firm that values its people to a sea of numbers. Don’t expect the organization to deliver on any promises particularly Re: mobility or have any transparency as they make changes that impact people’s life plans. In particular, this has worsened since the latest team of Csuite leads. If you’re considering BCG for the mobility opportunities, think again — most has been removed. The people you meet and work with at the firm are, however, exceptional. I wish that NAMR’s constantly changing rules and lack of transparency or consideration of people’s lives and plans outside of work had not ruined this experience. There was so much potential. Hours are not sustainable or with the pay.
