high pay but unstable

Pros

Salary and benefits above market average. Office centrally located near train station and local facilities. Close to Zug lake for lunchtime walks if you can find the time.

Cons

Culture dominated by USA corporate headquarters which can be difficult going for staff with European culture. Very high workload and long hours (no time stamping). Hire/fire culture with poor job stability - layoffs every few years as well as frequent firing of single individuals. Many semi-compulsory evening / late night meetings with USA. Reputation for giving unfair work references to leavers. Very limited car parking.

Pros

Location in Cambridge is nice Buildings are new Few good people still left Happy hour every week Shut down between xmas and New Years.

Cons

There are some enigmas...why aren't some of the "bad" employees let go? They are boneheads but somehow, year after year, the don't get fired (certain Asset executives) or moved...also some significant nepotism (CMO).

Pros

Overall really great people and interesting science. Really enjoyed coming to work and working with such talent colleagues. Also great comp and benefits.

Cons

I was at Biogen six years and the place changed dramatically (for the worse). The politics at the executive level got vicious and once George announced he was leaving, this made things worse. The company has gotten away from the science and teamwork that made it successful. Plus they have backtracked on diversity with many of the recent senior departures being women--so it is back to being a boys club. I’d stay away until see what direction new CEO takes.
