Pros

Never got denied a requested day off, coworkers / managers were good people (varies by store). Decent hours and were able to work around my college classes.

Cons

Dress Code - It's the 21'st century, button-up, ties and slacks in a sporting goods environment is ridiculous. No facial hair except for mustaches. This kind of dress code really has no place in any retail store, especially a sporting goods one. Pay is a bit underwhelming.

Pros

work experience for those without anywhere else to go.

Cons

worked sales at big 5 for about two years. Constantly felt belittled and under appreciated. there were about 20 part time workers who would each get about 5-10 hours of work a week. they do this so they won't have to give full-time benefits to any of their workers and avoid paying employees extra for working holidays.
