Pros

Opportunities to work from home.

Cons

Overstock is going through a lot of changes. However, that is not the problem. In these changes, employees were lied to for almost a year and now that everything is rolling out and see what is really happening we get silenced when we try and talk about it or get the answers. Overstock USED to be a great place to work, and I USED to feel valued as an employee. Not any more. Oh, but now we do get daily inspirational emails! Barf.

Pros

There is a lot of opportunities to collaborate on projects with other experienced employees. Everyone loves to help each other.

Cons

Lots of levels of management -- several that don't have the ability to lead. Expect your job training to be slow and not engaging. With the number of managers, it takes forever to get things approved, or you just get told no. Lots of red tape in many different processes. Open floor plan is extremely counter-productive. It's loud, with people talking on cellphones while wandering around the floor, playing video games, etc. Your manager sits in the open floor plan with you, so if you need to talk, it's almost impossible, without an awkward trip to a meeting room. Lots of talk of layoffs -- it seems like it's become "normal". The company also has a tendency to over-hire, then reduce workforce shortly after. Turnaround causes all sorts of disasters -- new management, new senior team members -- not many have a clue what is going on.

Staffing is a delicate balance. We hear teams when they tell us they are overwhelmed and work to get them the help they request. Our plan is to continually improve onboarding of new employees while putting in better workforce planning practices.
