Pros

Food & the office, giving my notice.

Cons

The general company philosophy is to polish a turd long enough so someone will purchase it. The company mentality has long been to focus on blockchain and hope the business sells. The culture stemming from this is awkward and rigid. HR and recruiting is laughable— VP’s in every role, it’s like an episode of Oprah! And everyone is hungry to talk up a great story but in reality, deliver nothing. When I joined, I was oversold on opportunity, ability to make an impact, drive true changes... what I found was chauvinistic, sexist and hostile behavior— ex; I once provided data that challenged the status quo in a meeting and was later told “X (then president) doesn’t appreciate when women talk to him like that.” No joke— and this was what someone actually shared with me. I wish that was the only point I’d heard that sentiment, but it was a regular occurrence.

Pros

Overstock does nice events for their employees. The new headquarters in SLC is really nice and very easily accessible with mass transit. People who work there are mostly nice. Decent benefits - there is a health provider on premises.

Cons

Things I was told while hiring were b.s. and never happened (mainly surrounding work/life balance and opportunities within the department). They promote this overall attitude of being a "cool company", but I disagree; the vision of the Patric Byrnes and what's actually happening within the company are totally at odds. Management is completely segmented, the different heads of the company do not talk to each other and there is no cohesion in the leadership. Big about promoting from within, but this leads to people with zero competence becoming the Directors of their departments. Lots of people are very stressed out, working there is generally disorganized and stressful. Honestly, I don't know how the company makes money after working there.

Pros

Working for the company is a good resume builder IF you can last before you get let go on a whim of the CEO.

Cons

Schizophrenic Senior management.with no strategy. Heavy male domination at top level. Only two females at executive level (1 VP of Facilities, 1 SVP of Talent Management) out of 1800 employees! This company would rather spend million of dollars developing off Brand initiatives rather than dedicating resources to make money on the retail side of Overstock.com
