Pros

The dysfunction of this company has endless entertainment value. The comedic material is *almost* enough to justify working at this hell hole. Other benefits include experience working with severe psychological disorders - delusion, narcissism, bipolar and sociopathy - and learning what it looks like when an organization has completely and unequivocally given up. *Hint* It's when half the organization is clinging to their ping-pong paddles and the other half is knifing anyone they can to defend a position they could never get outside of Overstock's four crumbling walls.

Cons

The vast failures of the organization are only rivaled by the management teams' failures as a human beings. Picture the mangled offspring of King Geoffrey (GoT) and Sarah Palin, and you'll get an image of what it is like to work under the President - "Princess Stormy." Half fascist, half imbecile, Princess S. represents the worst combination of attributes you could find in one personality. Trying to characterize her as a defender of diversity, as an excuse for her other failures, is not only inadequate- it's a lie. She fired the only two gay people I knew when I worked there, and her bizarre relationship with the CEO is a betrayal to women in leadership everywhere. Women who have worked hard to earn their leadership roles aren't helped or inspired by this pathetic "flirt / sleep / blackmail your way to the top" story. But those flaws don't matter, what matters is the irreversible damage done to the company and the livelihood of 1,500 families. O.co's share price has tanked 60%. Personally wiping out $400 million of value in a single year is astounding. You can't deny her influence. Her tactics are so despicable and unethical, it has collapsed the morale of the company leading to the exodus of 1 Co-President, 3 SVPs, 4 VPs, 18 Directors and 120+ rank and file people. All those people are the problem? She brags: "I'm polarizing!" - but it is akin to N. Korea's love for the Dear Leader. Are those cheers from supporters or subjects? When Princess S. and her equally deplorable minions aren't publicly humiliating you, your boss or your peers, they busy themselves with well thought-out decisions like: cheating Google's SEO algorithms and getting crushed for it, burning millions on marketing partnerships with has-beens, distracting mgt with ebola crisis preparation, or my personal favorite, interrupting a stand-up so Princess S. can ask: "What is a .jpg?" Quitting here was like trying to exit Islam in Afghanistan. You are either in, or in exile. Expect to defend yourself against character assassination attempts after you quit. Or better yet, don't even consider working there. O.co has long past the point of irrelevancy and is hurtling toward an ironic, ugly firesale. If the company survives, its local reputation is so bad and there are so many Overstockers shopping resumes elsewhere, putting it on your CV will only hurt you.

Pros

Pros....becoming very hard to find. Still lots of good employees who want to be successful...

Cons

Overstock has lost its leadership. Patrick is off chasing his Cryptocurrency dreams and the ship is sinking quick with Stormy at the helm. Loss of long term employees at all levels should be an alarm to the executive team (those who are still there or not lined up to leave). Good employee's do not leave good employers and a healthy work atmosphere at the rate OS is loosing key people. It's toxic and as mentioned in multiple reviews, management by bullying and fear from Stormy. The reports here are not exaggerated. You'd be shocked to be a fly on the wall....

Pros

Many of my peers became my good friends. Unfortunately, several of them have been laid off. Many of my managers were encouraging mentors that actually made a difference in my life. The building is pretty nice. Plenty of amenities and employee resources. When the company isn’t burning to the ground, there’s a pretty good culture. Lots of parties with good opportunities to network and make friends. Sometimes the executives learn from their mistakes. For example, the second round of 2019 layoffs was handled much better than the first. The bathrooms are always very clean.

Cons

The CEO, Patrick Byrne, is an insufferable blowhard who treats the company-wide email distro like a personal platform for Ted Talks and hot takes. He misses no opportunity to send lengthy, onanistic emails wherein he mansplains Bitcoin, blockchain, stocks, the marketplace, the virtues of libertarianism, and the reason he dresses himself like a Shaolin monk. There’s a fundamental disconnect between the executive team and those working behind desks. This disconnect is the result of gaslighting and faux-transparency from the execs. While we did get shown the company’s numbers every once in a while, it seemed we never really got the full story. When things went south, those of us at the bottom paid the price for decisions we had nothing to do with. Every six months, it feels like you’re working for a different company, and your job (if you still have one six months after starting) might be completely different in terms of goals and workload. Whatever you were doing for the last six months quickly gets forgotten or struck down as a bad strategy. Execs try to sugarcoat the company's volatile and erratic nature by saying that Overstock is agile and adaptable, but it’s demoralizing and makes you feel like nothing you do matters. I know that a lot of this isn’t unique to Overstock. Plenty of companies struggle with similar issues, but Overstock tries to build an allure around being better than other companies. It isn’t. The recent layoffs made many of us feel that Byrne miscalculated and is desperately scrapping what’s left of the retail company to fund his other business interests. Byrne has publicly stated that he wants to sell the retail company, and it really shows. We feel like wood being burned to keep tZERO warm. The bathrooms are always crowded. Gotta go? Prepare to do a lap around the building to find a vacant stall.
