Looks and Feels like a High Tech E-Commerce Company

Pros

The facility is beautiful. Glass windows all over, brand new building, full cafeteria, the latest conference room technologies, on site health clinic, on site day care, and on site gym. Having these amenities, and others I didn't mention, helps make you feel like a valued member of the company, as they at least seem to be trying to make you feel appreciated. It's not all about how much you make in a job (a lot of it is), but it's also is about not hating the job and company you have every day you go in.

Cons

This might be due to being an online retailer, but things move fast. The projects and tasks occasionally shift focus and direction while being completed due to priorities which can happen over night. There are many teams each controlling a different parts of the website, and very often if becomes hard to not step on each other toes when working on a project.

A mess of a company

Pros

You can meet some good friends working at Overstock. If you're willing to pay the price, the health insurance is not bad.

Cons

Management is a disaster. The customer care department has gone down in flames since they brought in new leaders. They constantly tout "no favoritism" yet took a bunch of outsiders from Washington and placed them in high paying, high ranking management positions. The overall speculation for this move was simply because they are friends with the current CS leader. The positions were not posted to apply for. There was no official introduction as to who these people were, but employees are expected to immediately respect and obey the commands they're given by these strangers they don't know. Managers who had just hit the floor weeks prior were given the task of choosing who to let go, without having any real idea what is actually happening behind the scenes. The reason for lay offs? "Restructuring." Anyone with a brain still at Overstock knows that the lay offs are happening to the people that have their own thought process and will not blindly follow the miserable lead of management. Promotions are given out to those who brown-nose the most, not people that actually deserve it. It's been said that CS is the red-headed step child of the company, and it only becomes more and more clear. The new building was not built to hold the entirety of customer care (even though the CEO made it clear the building was to bring the company together), and there was a period of more than 6 months where agents didn't know where they were going, yet they still were not able to meet everyone's needs in the end. Many times the CEO was supposed to visit CS during the holidays, and never showed. The department recently lost all the paid holidays they previously enjoyed to be "more available" for the customers. Yet, there were no noticeable issues with the previously given holidays. The opportunity to move up and out of CS? Gone. Corporate only wants to hire from outside the company anymore. If you want a career where you'll be lied to and jerked around a lot, this is the place for you!

Pros

Working at Overstock.com was a great oppotunity to get hands on experience in the E-Commerce enviroment.

Cons

Company initiatives are always evolving rapidly and not staying on course long enough to evaluate.
