Pros

1. I gained A LOT of experience working here. 2. I had the opportunity to work with a few good people (emphasis on few.) 3. 401K

Cons

I’ve seen some positive reviews on Glassdoor for Overstock, but I can tell you with certainty that those positive reviews were left by people who didn’t work closely with the executive team. 1. Executive Team/Management a. With everything I’ve witnessed over the past few years I have say the executive team closely resembles that “cool group” in high school. They do drugs together, sleep with each other, gossip behind each other’s backs, bully each other among other employees ETC. It obviously all starts and ends with the president: SS. She’s known as Overstock’s “poison.” I, among many other Overstock employees (former and present) believe she will cause the demise of Overstock. She “motivates” by fear, she’s nothing close to a leader and she’s completely unqualified to be in that position. b. Personally, I was sexually harassed and verbally abused by my boss (an executive) while I worked there. I kept record of every inappropriate thing my boss did or said to me, I also had multiple witnesses to the harassment and abuse. I finally mustered up enough courage to report what I had encountered and what did HR do…..? An “Investigation” that resulted in NO action. They told me to go back and work under my abuser “as normal.” They didn’t offer me any alternative. I did seek legal counsel, but ultimately… I decided I could not physically bare anymore emotional stress or anxiety on the matter. I didn’t want to waste anymore of my time fighting a company that had already caused me so much pain over the years I worked there. 2. High Turnover (result of exec./mgmt. Team) Employee turnover It is INSANE, people are constantly quitting or being fired, especially the Assistants that assist those on the executive team. Within a 4-month period 10 (some very long term) assistants quit, and 2 were fired. I know one of the president’s former assistant’s had to go to therapy after she quit because of all the terrible things she experienced. Not everyone that works at Overstock is bad, but the executive team among many directors, managers, HR, and some other employees are truly unethical and corrupt…One of the multiple issues with this is you don’t know who you can trust. They’re all entangled in this disgusting shady web where they cover for each other, but if they need to they’ll also throw each other under the bus. It’s unsettling to witness and just thinking about it now makes me sick. I’m probably 15-30 years younger than all of them and it breaks my heart to see these “adults” who should be fairly settled into who they are and what they stand for acting like 14 year olds in junior high. Not one of them has integrity. NOT ONE. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t waste your time working for people with 0 integrity or values. I’m now working for an amazing company with great people, high standards and ethics and my life is completely different. I’m SO happy, I’m healthy and I enjoy what I do and environment I do it in. Don’t settle for Overstock, I promise you it will never be worth it in the long run.

Pros

Stormy Simon, the president of the company and probably at the root of most of the negative reviews on this site, just resigned. I cannot overstate what good news this is for the organization. Huge. Like an enormous black cloud lifting. Now we can get back to business in earnest.

Cons

Unfortunately, many of the truly outstanding people she ran off or fired will never return. This is a true tragedy.

Pros

The people! There are so many hard workers and people dedicated! Other huge other benefits, such as shutting down Lagoon for just Overstock, private concerts, monthly events where people can drink alcohol in the middle of the work day, in-house cafeteria in the Peace Coliseum, and lately, an attempt to provide more of a work/life balance by starting the 9/80 shifts (allowing for every other Friday to be off).

Cons

Morale is a drag. As of now, there are maybe four Senior Vice Presidents left when there used to be what looked like an army. The "best" have been moved to other companies affiliated with Overstock (TZero, Medici, Bitt). With the focus being on other business ventures, it's evident and painfully obvious that Overstock is not the primary business of concern. We do things that kind of look like what's an attempt to keep financials afloat to keep it going, but it's obvious that they're just trying to buy time until a company seriously looks at Overstock to be bought out.
