Pros

I absolutely love the people I work with. BT employs a younger crowd for the most part and generally promotes from within based on the typical 3 years to senior 5/6 to manager, etc track. They have a lot of fun activities planned throughout the year. Very flexible schedule during summer. Excellent benefits.

Cons

Many of the cons of BT really depend on the group you're working with or get stuck with. - Little to no employee development. You will not hear about a performance review or goals until a couple weeks before they are due, you will meet once with your PC, and likely not hear about it again for 5-6 months. - It is a struggle to get feedback on your puerformance from Managers on an engagement to engagement basis. Like I said, this is measured twice a year and you will not hear about it in-between. - The hours. This depends on the group you are placed with, but I have routinely worked 70-75 hours and had 2-3 weeks of 80-85 hours/week during busy season. From what friends at other firms have told me, they have very few weeks that approach this standard of BT's during their busy season. - Terrible flexibility for mothers with children. Reduced work schedules which pay a fraction of a full-time salary, often still result in 50+ hours during busy season. I have seen 2-3 new mothers leave the firm in my time here.

Pros

They are really flexible time wise, as long as all the work is done. Management is friendly, fun, and inspiring. There is a learning and team atmosphere. BTVK or Baker Tilly is the best company I have ever worked for.

Cons

Baker Tilly is located downtown Minneapolis and parking is not paid for at my position level. The office interior could be a little bit more open. I would also like a microwave on my floor.

Pros

The firm is a large firm and with that comes many opportunities for employees' growth both intellectually and through the ranks. Many of our partners are thought leaders in their respective fields so the opportunities for learning are many. The firm focuses on their people and provides, as best as a large firm can, a work/life balance. The firm supports its people in their career and personal endeavors.

Cons

Public accounting in general is not an easy career. There are long hours and stressful situations at times; however, if you really enjoy what you do than the negative aspects are not so impactful. The firm has had some "bumps" along the way but in my opinion management has been forthcoming; addressing the matter through open lines of communication. There really are no cons related specifically to ParenteBeard; the saying "the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence" is true.
