Pros

Excellent flexibility, awesome benefits and other job perks, really fun bonding activities and office socials

Cons

some partners are micromanagers, at times there wasn't trust for me to write a simple email without hand-holding, in my group there was also a lot of caddy-ness among the women in leadership roles (talking about you behind your back, being exceptionally rude or condescending, etc.)

Pros

National level tax teams who assist with larger client issues and advise as needed, experience on a variety of clients (pass-through entities, corporations, etc) in a variety of industries

Cons

Still suffering from the effects of multiple mergers. Pittsburgh seems to be unable to climb out of the hole it created for itself in the merger process. Managers and partners are out of touch with what is happening at the staff and senior levels, as evidenced by the decisions they make. Promises for promotions are not kept. Administrative work that keeps departments working well is not valued (whether done by administrative personnel or professional staff/team members). Pittsburgh has a huge gender bias problem, and only certain types of individuals are promoted early, if at all. Staff are extremely overworked in the Pittsburgh tax department, so much so that it's impossible to take a break in the summer, and a lot of vacation time goes unused. Many Legacy ParenteBeard offices still cling to the culture that once was, and they are difficult places to work as a result. I concluded that Baker Tilly would be a good place to work if you were in one of the Midwest offices or D.C.
