Pros

BHP Billiton, on the whole, legitimately cares about their employees. Their benefit plans are very generous and they truly try to invest in their people. Very approachable executive although pockets of the organization (Head office, Petroleum office) are less so.

Cons

Business systems are too rigid and inefficient. The "governance machine" that sits on top is unwilling to make change. This stifles creativity and a lot of your job is about trying to make things that should just work, work... In the projects, the executive is constantly rethinking decisions. Start/stop. Go fast/go slow. Do X, now do Y. Its very frustrating

Obscenely good pay. Potential to be involved in meaningful projects. Constant change. Perks of being fly in fly out include free food and WiFi.

Cons

Variable quality lower level management (most commonly poor) . Fly in fly out is not for everyone. Career progression is for the lucky few.
