At the time I was hired BHP’s CTO said publicly they were competing with Google for employees - that says it all.
I worked for a simulation team with in BHP:
- the lead for simulation had no actual modeling or coding experience, and no mining understanding
- managers very likely hired for DEI
- half the leads in the team only functioned as Scrum Masters - they should just have “scrum master” in their title
- working in silo and unrealistic expectations
- long hours with no food or pay or dil benefits
