Tax So-So at BDO

Pros

While BDO is already a large public accounting firm, it is growing rapidly, particularly in tax. There is room for advancement at the company and they are pretty flexible when it comes to work and other obligations.

Cons

It will be a lot of work. Maybe too much to make it worthwhile. The long hours maybe too much for some people and the reward not great enough. Also, the environment is heavily work oriented, so much so, that words might not be spoken for hours.

Pros

I think BDO is somewhat of a good place to start off and learn things. For a person out of college with lots of energy, they throw you in the deep end and make sure you're able to swim your first week.

Cons

The work hours are grueling and the senior level doesn't appreciate your work. The talk about flexibility is just talk. Get in and get out with the experience because this isn't a place where you'll stay.

Pros

Benefits are good and it is nice to work with intelligent people. Company tries to represent teamwork and cooperative spirit but....(see cons)

Cons

Salary freeze in 2009. Performance evaluations are meaningless. Work+life+fit is a joke when you actually need to have a life. Management is extremely careful not to document anything that can be used as proof of violations of discrimination laws and issues such as Family Medical Leave Act. BDO will force use of vacation time before you earn the maximum. Management will not discuss advancement and in some cases retaliates if you express interest in applying for other positions within the company. Beware of the "good old boy" network! Education assistance not available for administrative and finance positions.
